From the Principal’s Office

June’s CLEAR Focus:  We Are Responsible Citizens.

Dear Families,

This will be the final newsletter of the 09-10 school year! It has been an outstanding year at St. Leander School. We celebrated a very successful accreditation visit in February and began very important curriculum work with our colleagues in the Diocese of Oakland. We had a great CYO sports year, with our parish teams advancing to the highest levels of competition. We had an excellent exhibit Lillian Black Festival of the Arts in April. All classes participated in some form of service learning project, from recycling to cleaning up our campus to collecting pennies to build schools in Afghanistan. We welcomed even more babies to our faculty family and one puppy (Mr. & Mrs. Hall are the proud parents of Spanky!)

Our students continued to grow in wisdom and in faith, as our parish celebrated First Reconciliation and First Communion with our second graders. As we gathered in prayer every morning, we prayed for one another and for special intentions. We enjoyed spirit days, holidays, cultural celebrations, free dress days, and seasonal parties and field trips. As happens in every community, we had challenging times and difficult times, as loss, illness, and a troubled economy affected members of our school community. Through it all, I believe we did our best to remain faithful to the mission of our parish school to work together to build up the Kingdom of God. Behind every school event, every conference, every field trip and every party were our parents, helping in every way to make the richness of the year possible and reaching out to each other in times of need. Thank you for living the spirit at our school. I know you join me in thanking our faculty, staff, and parish for the countless ways they have supported our students. We thank our students who are the reason we all do what we do.

On Sunday, June 6th,  we will bless our eighth graders as they leave these familiar walls and bravely venture forth to high school. You are ready to fly—make us proud.

I hope and pray that you all have a wonderful and refreshing summer. I am excited about the upcoming year and we will be ready for you in August!

Sincerely,

Lynne Kennedy Mullen, Principal

Health Committee Update:

Please be sure to take care of health and immunization updates over the summer.  All students must have 5 DTP shots, 4 Polio shots, and 2 MMR shots before entering kindergarten.  Also, please note that all kindergarten students must have a physical exam that is given within six months of the start of school on August 23th.  All students entering first grade must have a physical exam that was given within twelve months (one year) of the start of school on August 23th.  Please make sure that you have taken care of these requirements before the beginning of school.

Summer School Update:

All summer school tuition payments are now past due.  Please contact the school office if you have not yet paid your summer school tuition but would like to have your child attend summer school.  Spaces will not be held for families that have not paid tuition or called and made arrangements for payment.

Relay for Life Update from Deanna Chasteen

I am proud to walk for the St Leander Community and our extended families and friends.  I've had a few parents email me, and it's been great! Please send my thanks to all the families for their donations and prayers. I'll make sure to take pictures at the walk to share with everyone.

Reminder:

Tomorrow, Thursday, students may wear “Free Dress” and offer a donation of $2.00 for Deanna’s Relay for Life Walk for the American Cancer Society. Thanks to all who are supporting her. School parent Mr. Lucas will be selling delicious Italian Ice after school at the Big School and will donate the proceeds to this cause. The price is $2.00 for a smaller size and $3.00 for a larger size. We hope to raise at least $500 on Thursday to support Deanna!
