January’s CLEAR Focus: We Are Responsible Citizens
Dear Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and, like the faculty, are ready to jump into the new decade. I know vacation lasts only two weeks, but I always marvel that the children look taller when they return from break!
We are finishing our WASC/WCEA Self-Study in preparation for our accreditation visit which is fast approaching next month. We are also getting ready for Open House which will take place on Sunday, January 31. We will celebrate Catholic Schools Week beginning with 11:00 AM Mass followed by Open House for current and prospective families. We will have classroom displays of student work, including our 7th and 8th Grade Science Fair projects and a school book fair in the auditorium.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Lynne Kennedy Mullen
Principal

VP Corner – Ms. Amy Cross
Welcome back and Happy New Year! Thank you to all of the families who so kindly and generously sent me holiday wishes and special treats to brighten my holiday.
The Book Fair is coming!
The theme this year is “All You Can Read”! It is a buffet of reading with a diner theme. We are looking for some talented and artistic people to help create fun decorations for our theme this year. Also, we will need volunteers to work shifts at the Book Fair and to help with set up and clean up. The Book Fair will be dropped off for set up on January 27th. We will be open Jan 28th, 29th and on the 31st during Open House. The book fair will also be open February 1st and 2nd with clean up after school on February 2nd. Mark your calendars! Sign up sheets will go out in next week’s newsletter.
Evacuation Drill:
If you have any feedback regarding our evacuation drill which took place on December 18, please let us know via a note, call, or e-mail. We are always looking to find more efficient ways to plan for emergencies or disasters. The faculty debriefed the drill at our meeting on Monday, and teachers made some helpful suggestions for the future. |
Notice of Asbestos Program Management Plan
Each year, we are required by the Environmental Protection Agency to inform the school community of the presence of asbestos containing materials in the school building. Our asbestos consultant, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Asbestos Emergency Response Act (AHERA), inspects annually all asbestos-containing building materials within St. Leander School. No asbestos abatement occurred during the 2008-2009 school year, and none is expected this year. Operations and maintenance repair activities were conducted in accordance with EPA guidelines throughout the year. Asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) within the school’s facilities are in good condition and pose no threat to the health and safety of our students and staff. All of the ACBM is addressed under a comprehensive Operations & Maintenance Program.
St. Leander Parish Crab Feed
St. Leander Parish presents its 3rd Annual Crab Feed on Saturday, February 6th. Tickets are $35 each until January 31st ( $40 after Jan 31st) and may be purchased at the parish office—they make a great Christmas gift for the “crab lover” in your life. Dinner includes delicious crab, salad, garlic bread, and a lovely dessert auction. Our Eighth Grade class will be helping serve and we are in need of four parents to help work in the kitchen. Parent hours are available. Please contact the school office if you can help. Also, if you enjoy baking and would like to provide a dessert for the dessert auction, you may also earn parent hours. We’ll send more information about the dessert auction after the holidays. This is another great parish event and the reviews the last two years have been terrific. We expect another “sold out” dinner, so get your tickets early!
