January’s CLEAR Focus:  We Are Responsible Citizens

Dear Families,

We are preparing for our week of celebration at the end of the month when we join with our friends and colleagues across the country to recognize Catholic Schools Week. Please plan to join us on Sunday, January 31st at 11:00 AM in the church for Mass. Students are asked to wear their uniforms and our students will be the greeters, lectors, and choir. After Mass, we welcome you to tour the classrooms for our Open House from Noon-2:00 PM. Each class will have work and projects to showcase their learning. We hope to see you there!

Our students will gather for Mass on Friday at 12:15 PM. All are welcome to join us, as our Kindergarten and Fifth Grade classes lead us in prayer and song.

Monday is a holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May the dream of Dr. King remain alive in our hearts and in our actions as we honor this important man, his work, and the ultimate sacrifice of his life in the name of justice. Let us be peacemakers in our homes, in our school (and schoolyard),  and in our community.

Sincerely,

Lynne Kennedy Mullen

Principal

The Book Fair is coming!

The theme this year is “All You Can Read”!  It is a buffet of reading with a diner theme.  We are looking for some talented and artistic people to help create fun decorations for our theme this year.  Also, we will need volunteers to work shifts at the Book Fair and to help with set up and clean up.  The Book Fair will be dropped off for set up on January 27th.  We will be open Jan 28th, 29th and on the 31st during Open House.  The book fair will also be open February 1st with clean up after school on February 1st.  Mark your calendars! Please see the enclosed flyer to volunteer.

St. Leander Parish Crab Feed

St. Leander Parish presents its 3rd Annual Crab Feed on Saturday, February 6th. Tickets are $35 each until January 31st ( $40 after Jan 31st)  and may be purchased at the parish office—they make a great Christmas gift for the “crab lover” in your life. Dinner includes delicious crab, salad, garlic bread, and a lovely dessert auction.  Our Eighth Grade class will be helping serve and we are in need of four parents to help work in the kitchen. Parent hours are available. Please contact the school office if you can help. Also, if you enjoy baking and would like to provide a dessert for the dessert auction, you may also earn parent hours. Please see the enclosed flier. This is another great parish event and the reviews the last two years have been terrific. We expect another “sold out” dinner, so get your tickets soon!

Accreditation News!

On Friday, we welcome our Visiting Team who will gather for a planning meeting. At this meeting, they will be presented with our Self-Study, a detailed and complete report the faculty has written about our programs, curriculum, and school improvement at St. Leander School. The team will take this book and study it carefully in advance of our accreditation visit which will take place February 16-17-18. On these dates, the team will spend their time observing and validating our report. They will be meeting with teachers, students, Fr. Paul, and the parents in the PTG and School Board, and will write a “Visiting Committee Report” on their study of our school. The team will recommend a term of accreditation for our school and forward our report and their report to the WCEA (Western Catholic Educational Association)/WASC (Western Association for Schools and Colleges) which will issue our formal accreditation in the summer. This process is a cyclical six-year program which focuses our school community on continuous self-improvement. The faculty has been working very hard on this document and we are proud to show our Visiting Committee our wonderful school.
